Job Overview:

The Shop attendant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining a well-stocked and organized store, and ensuring efficient cash-handling operations. The job holder will act as our brand ambassador and will play a vital role in creating a positive and welcoming shopping experience for our valued customers. The shop attendant will be reporting to shift leader/ team leader/ assistant shop manager and shop manager. They will also be responsible for maintaining a high level of Food Hygiene Standards and Quality and Food Safety controls as well as taking care of their own wellbeing and the health and safety of themselves and others.     

Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

  • Greets customers upon entering the store and provides assistance with their shopping needs, answering questions and resolving queries;
  • Recognizes customer requirements and promotes and upsells supplementary Maypole products that enhance customer’s purchases, emphasizing the distinctive features and quality of Maypole’s products; 
  • Promotes Maypole’s special promotions to encourage customer engagement; 
  • Recommends seasonal items and new product introductions to keep customers informed about Maypole’s latest offerings; 
  • Addresses customer complaints and inquiries. Escalates complex or unresolved issues to the Shop manager or assistant shop manager or team leader for further attention;  

Product Knowledge:

  • Be knowledgeable about Maypole’s product range, special promotions and company policies to assist customers effectively; 
  • Applies their familiarity with Maypole’s products to facilitate customer orders for bread, pastries, and cakes, ensuring fulfillment of customer needs. 

Stock Management:

  • Assists with storing deliveries of stock, ensuring proper handling and organization of merchandize; 
  • Stocks shelves with merchandise, maintaining a neat and tidy appearance of the outlet; 
  • Ensures proper stock rotation to avoid outdated products and maximizes product visibility; 
  • Prices products accurately and adheres to pricing guidelines; 

Financial Transactions:

  • Processes cash and card payments promptly and accurately, adhering to company cash handling procedures;
  • Balances cash and card transactions with registered input to ensure financial accuracy;

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a shop attendant or in a similar customer-facing role would be considered an asset  
  • Good command of the English language 
  • Food handling certification
